For almost fifty years, the March for Life has showed up on the National Mall to demand the right to intrude upon the choice that a woman has over her own body. Every January 22, the anniversary of the Roe decision, they have gathered, sending flotillas of school busses loaded with Catholic student pawns, and gathering together a rag-tag army of forced birthers. It has been a focal point of their calendar, a chance to network and hobnob, a demonstration of their strength and determination.
This year, their annual pilgrimage bore the fruits they so fervently wished for, or at least the first fruits of a bitter harvest. I wonder what attendance will be this coming January, what with the changed environment.
But enough with the introductions. We ought to do the same. On June 24, 2023, the first anniversary of the Dobbs decision, we should likewise gather on the National Mall, showing our political strength and determination to fight for fundamental rights. Of course, the more important date where we expressed our might was November 8, but this would be a telegenic reminder that we are still working towards our goals. It could also become a focus of our calendar, but more importantly a tool towards our goal.
Political protest is better developed on our side. Let’s show it.
